Life is too Short for Ugly Notebooks!

One Week Away: NSS Update!

5-10-12

oh my goodness – in exactly one week we’ll be heading to NYC for the National Stationery Show!

we are putting the last minute touches on our booth plans, all our samples have been ordered and everything is about to be shipped!

our big project last week was a pre-show mailer — we mailed out 1,000 May Books (yep, 1,000 actual books!!) to retailers heading to NSS.

last year, I taped in my business cards into my notebook and wrote notes from everyone I met.  So this year, I got a wild idea and decided that retailers coming to the show might want to do the same thing! SOOOOO we taped in our business card with patterned tape (we’re so obsessed with washi tape, we got some completely branded for May Books!)

and speaking of how much we love it . . . take a look at these little beauties! we have tons of May Books striped/chevron tape we will be handing out to people stopping by our booth!

we get really excited about the small details around here.  i mean, pink/green chevron tape!? adorbs.

if you are a retailer heading to NSS, please drop by booth #1667 and see us! we can’t wait to meet you!!  make sure to email us hello{at}may books.com or shout out on twitter @maybooks and we’ll schedule an appointment or just make sure to look out for you!

We’re Hiring: Social Media Internship!!

5-2-12

At May Books, we have more ideas up our sleeves than time in the day.

We love our jobs, and think we have a pretty fabulous opportunity for you.

A 100 day Social Media/Communications Internship (Mid May-August)

We are looking for someone (read: young and spunky) that is pumped about notebooks and connecting with others.  We find ourselves trying to keep up with thousands of notebook enthusiasts every week — people are passionate about paper and we love it!!  An ideal fit for us would be someone who naturally incorporates aspects of social media into their current daily life and loves fashion/product trends.

Our plan to stay in touch involves:

-Blogging

-Email campaigns

-Twitter

-Instagram

-Facebook

-Snail Mail (who doesn’t love something in the mailbox these days?!)

If you prove yourself, it can turn into a long term position, or it could be one fabulous summer together.

Compensation includes real business experience (we’re talking social media emersion!), a great resume builder, and a financial stipend.

You don’t have to live in Houston or Memphis where we have offices, but if you do, all the better.

To apply, contact John Carroll (john@maybooks.com).

Quite frankly, we need to be WOWED!!  Get us excited about you cause you’re excited about us.  Tell us your favorite blogs, Twitter peeps, or favorite companies you stalk and why.

Serious inquiries only please.

Countdown to NSS!

4-16-12

with our new website launched (whoohoo — are you having a blast with the new custom previews?!) it’s time to move on to our next endeavor . . .

The National Stationery Show!!

we are busy designing our booth, creating a pre-show mailer, training staff, and all together getting pumped about a week in New York City in the Spring.

last week’s project:  booth wall color.  i ordered our booth walls, but had to specify a Pantone color.  joy of joys!!  my favorite task! so i busted out my Pantone books, and meticulously went through all the “blue/green/teal/turquoise” colors.  i wanted something vibrant and cheerful, not too light, not too dark, but JUUUUUSSTTT right.

choosing the perfect “robin’s egg” color can be tricky — but i’m hopeful Lucky No. 319 is going to be perfect!

i’ll most likely be doing some frequent NSS updates — so stay tuned for all the details!!

A little spark, a lot of hustle.

4-4-12

I’m THRILLED to announce that I will be a speaker during the Spark & Hustle 2012 tour, a 20-city series of day-long conferences for current and aspiring small business owners. Yippee!!

The events are led by Tory Johnson, weekly contributor on Good Morning America, contributing editor to SUCCESS magazine and New York Times bestselling author.

What makes me SO pumped about this is that in January of 2011, I literally decided to give May Books my ALL for 1 year straight. I said I would do everything I could to make May Books the company I dreamed it could be.  I attended a Spark and Hustle conference in March of last year, and after meeting some of the most inspiring and challenging women in business – I started HUSTLING.

I can’t believe just a short year later, I will be in NYC, sharing a few tips and tricks I’ve throughout my journey {squeal!}  I will be speaking on the significance and impact of branding, something I’m slightly obsessed with!  I will speaking in NYC on May 22nd and in Houston on July 12th.
